Question 1

What is somatic sex education?

Accepted Answer

Somatic sex education is a credentialled, evidence-informed practice that works with the body as well as the mind. It helps people understand their own nervous system, desire, and intimate experience from the inside out — through education, body awareness, and carefully guided conversation. It is not therapy, and it does not involve physical contact.

Question 2

How is this different from sex therapy?

Accepted Answer

Sex therapy is a clinical intervention usually conducted by a registered psychologist or psychiatrist. Somatic sex education is an educational practice — it works alongside clinical care rather than replacing it. The focus is on learning, body awareness, and building capacity, rather than diagnosing or treating conditions.

Question 3

What does "somatic" mean?

Accepted Answer

"Somatic" simply means relating to the body. Somatic practices recognise that our nervous system, physical sensations, and bodily experience are just as important as our thoughts and feelings. Much of what shapes our intimate lives — including trauma, shame, and desire — is held in the body before it reaches conscious thought.

Question 4

Is this appropriate for me if I'm not experiencing a "problem"?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Many clients come to this work out of curiosity, a desire to deepen connection, or a sense that there's more available to them than they've experienced. You don't need a problem to benefit from this work — just a willingness to explore.

Question 5

What does a typical session look like?

Accepted Answer

Every session is different, because every person is different. In general, you'll talk — about what's brought you here, what you're noticing in your body, what's coming up for you. Tracy might offer a guided exercise, an education piece, a reflective question, or simply a space to process. There is no formula.

Question 6

Is there any physical touch involved?

Accepted Answer

No. Sessions do not involve physical touch. This is an educational and conversational practice, conducted entirely through dialogue and, where relevant, guided somatic awareness exercises that you do yourself.

Question 7

How long is a session?

Accepted Answer

Sessions are typically 60–90 minutes. The first session is usually a little longer, to allow for initial exploration and answering your questions.

Question 8

How many sessions will I need?

Accepted Answer

This varies considerably depending on what brings you here. Some people find significant value in 3–5 sessions. Others engage in ongoing work over months. Tracy will discuss this with you during your discovery call and in your first session — there's no package to commit to upfront.

Question 9

Do I need to prepare anything?

Accepted Answer

Nothing. Come as you are. There's no homework before your first session, no reading required, and no expectation of having anything figured out in advance.

Question 10

Does my partner need to be on board?

Accepted Answer

For couples sessions, yes — both partners participate. However, one partner reaching out is often the first step, and Tracy can help you navigate how to have that conversation with your partner. Individual sessions can also be a useful starting point if your partner is hesitant.

Question 11

What if my partner is resistant?

Accepted Answer

This is more common than you might think. Resistance often comes from uncertainty, not unwillingness. The discovery call is a good opportunity for a reluctant partner to ask questions and get a sense of what this actually involves — with no commitment to proceed.

Question 12

Can we do some sessions individually and some together?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many couples find a combination of individual and joint sessions to be the most effective approach. This is something Tracy will discuss with you to understand what serves you best.

Question 13

What if we disagree during a session?

Accepted Answer

Disagreement is not a problem — it's often the beginning of something useful. Tracy is experienced at holding a space where both perspectives are heard and neither partner feels like the identified 'problem'.

Question 14

Is this completely confidential?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is held in complete confidentiality. Tracy does not share client information with anyone, and your name and details are never used publicly. Please refer to the Privacy Policy for full details of how your data is stored and protected.

Question 15

Will this appear on any records?

Accepted Answer

Somatic sex education is not a registered health service and does not appear on Medicare records. Your engagement with this practice is private. If you have specific concerns about records, please raise them in your discovery call.

Question 16

What if I'm worried about being seen attending?

Accepted Answer

Tracy's practice is designed with discretion in mind. Online sessions are available for those who prefer to engage from the privacy of their own space. The booking and enquiry process is handled with complete privacy.

Question 17

How much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Session investment varies depending on the type of work. Please contact Tracy for current pricing — she's happy to discuss this on the discovery call. Workshop pricing is listed on each event page.

Question 18

Is this covered by Medicare or private health?

Accepted Answer

Somatic sex education is not currently a Medicare-claimable service. Some private health funds may offer rebates under general wellbeing or coaching categories — check with your fund. Tracy can provide receipts for your records.

Question 19

What if I need to cancel?

Accepted Answer

Tracy's cancellation policy is included in her client agreement, which she'll share with you before your first session. In general, she asks for 48 hours' notice where possible — and is always understanding of genuine emergencies.

Question 20

What if I feel embarrassed?

Accepted Answer

You are not alone. Almost everyone who reaches out feels some version of embarrassment — it's a completely natural response to exploring something so intimate and personal. Tracy has worked with people from every background and starting point. She will not be shocked, and she will not judge you. Ever.

Question 21

What if I've had a difficult experience with therapy before?

Accepted Answer

This is more common than you'd think, and it's a very valid concern. Somatic sex education is different from therapy — it's educational, body-based, and structured very differently. If you've had experiences that make you cautious, please raise them on your discovery call. Tracy will work with you, not around you.

Question 22

I identify as LGBTQ+ — is this work inclusive?

Accepted Answer

Completely and without reservation. Tracy works with clients across all sexual orientations, gender identities, and relationship configurations. Her practice is actively inclusive, and her language and approach reflect this.

Question 23

I'm older / I've been through menopause / I've had cancer — is this for me?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Life changes the body, and the body changes intimacy. Tracy has worked with clients navigating menopause, post-illness recovery, ageing, disability, and many other transitions. There is no 'right' body or 'right' stage of life for this work.

Question 24

I have a religious background — will that be respected?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tracy works with people from all spiritual and religious backgrounds without judgment. Your values are your own. The goal is never to change what you believe — it's to help you understand yourself more deeply within the context of your own life.
